STATEMENT OF NEED AND OVERALL GOAL

Orthopaedic surgery is undergoing rapid advances. This meeting is conducted by the NJOS to inform and educate medical specialists treating orthopaedic cases in the State of New Jersey. The meeting focuses on reviewing important topics relating to orthopaedic surgery:  Treatments of total hip and knee arthroplasty infections, management techniques to avoid complications and improve patient outcomes with periprosthetic joint infections, Evolution to outpatient arthroplasty, AAOS National Update as well as an Orthopaedic legislative update. New advances will be presented and participants will be informed about what changes to expect in the near future in the field of orthopaedic surgery.

 

TARGET AUDIENCE

Orthopaedic surgeons, physician assistants, nurses, Allied Health Professionals and administrators.

 

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION

In order to obtain credit for this activity, participants are required to sign in at the Registration Desk, attend the activity, and complete and return the Activity Evaluation. The certificate will be distributed following completion of the Activity Evaluation.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Understand new treatments of total hip and knee arthroplasty infections.
  • Manage techniques to avoid complications and improve patient outcomes with periprosthetic joint infections.
  • Understand the evolution to outpatient arthroplasty.
  • New advances will be presented and participants will be informed about what changes to expect in the near future in the field of orthopaedic surgery.
  • Discuss and illustrate the ways that AAOS is currently advocating for orthopaedic surgeons nationally.
  • Discuss current national legislative issues and the potential effect of a new president on health care reform.
