STATEMENT OF NEED AND OVERALL GOAL

Orthopaedic surgery is undergoing rapid advances. This meeting is conducted by the NJOS to inform and educate medical specialists treating orthopaedic cases in the State of New Jersey. The meeting focuses on reviewing important topics relating to orthopaedic surgery: The role of the federal government and regulations in orthopaedics with biologics past, present and future role of the federal government in healthcare, the science behind biologics, treatment for massive cuff tears, arthroplasty, AAOS National Update as well as an Orthopaedic legislative update. New advances will be presented and participants will be informed about what changes to expect in the near future in the field of orthopaedic surgery.

 

TARGET AUDIENCE

Orthopaedic surgeons, physician assistants, nurses, Allied Health Professionals and administrators.

 

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION

In order to obtain credit for this activity, participants are required to sign in, attend the activity, and complete and return the Activity Evaluation. The certificate will be distributed following completion of the Activity Evaluation.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the past, present, and future of the federal government in healthcare.
  • Understand the science behind biologics.
  • Understand treatment of massive cuff tears.
  • Understand the evolution of shoulder arthroplasty.
  • Understand the latest treatment of elbow injuries.
  • Discuss and illustrate the ways that AAOS is currently advocating for orthopedic Surgeons nationally.
  • Discuss and illustrate the statewide lobbying and legal efforts relating to the orthopaedic specialty.
